Hey there,
Not sure how well read this section is going to be, of whom exactly it is of interest to, but figured that during my journey I'd have so many baby/eating related things to say that this would be a better forum than my general travel blog to spare the non parents from abandoning ship from boredom. I thus give myself permission to rant about what trivialities of parenting I choose and leave the responsibility of reading to you the patient reader!
I've been on the road for 3 weeks now (yikes that's gone quick) and have gone from tentative steps in weaning Leo onto food to having to go full force into the world of baby eating. Leo turned 6 months on the day we headed out on that American Airlines flight and in these 3 weeks he's unfortunately (or not, depending on your point of view) been mostly sustained by purchased baby products. My initial plan was to embark on baby led weaning, www.rapleyweaning.com
a process by which the little one handles and takes in real food (and what i mean by that is whole food, not mush) at their own pace, which means baby can eat pretty much what you eat, excepting added sugar and salt content of course.
I had kind of started this a bit at home, letting Leo suck on bits of fruit and veg here and there. I also thought this method would be easy whilst on the go, being able to choose things for Leo as we eat out and about.
The reality has been slightly different however. Firstly I've found that food on the go has been of hit and miss quality ie, difficult to exclude salt, added sugar. Now I might have encouraged his tendency by spoon feeding but as Leo likes his food, he gets immensely frustated at not being able to manage food with his hands, or decides that the floor is the best place for that bit of chicken/carrot. Now I'm not particularly fussy about mess especially when the restaurant as to do the cleaning but I do worry that Leo's not getting much in by this method, and that our pace of life right now is far from regular I've decided now to follow the more traditional route of mashed food with whole foods as and when they present themselves, and we'll see how we go!

Any more news??!
Well, it was worth a go and I can see the logic behind it. Shame it didn't turn out how you wanted but at least you know he's getting enough when you shovel it down.
Soon be time for Elspeth to start as she's getting very demanding on the old boobs.
